The needs of an inline testing system are completely different to those for the inspection of a nuclear pressure vessel. The open architecture of MicroPulse gives the user unparalleled flexibility. Our competitors call this a hindrance but it is actually a benefit. It gives the user direct access to all the features available in the MicroPulse, rather than trying to wrap the true functionality up into an SDK and means the user can choose the most appropriate software / development platform for their application. Furthermore the MicroPulse, from power on, has its full functionality available, so no BOOTP!

UTEX Scientific's InspectionWare Suite

UTEX Scientific’s InspectionWare software platform (Software|UTEX Scientific) helps you build less complex NDE inspection systems that are faster, less fatiguing and more repeatable. Peak NDT’s MicroPulse range of instruments is fully supported by InspectionWare.

UTEX Scientific’s serve clients in all sectors of the NDT community including aerospace, power generation, oil and gas, and transport. They also serve the leading producers in the metals, composites, food, and plastics manufacturing industries.

InspectionWare enables NDT engineers and operators to specify exactly what they need to serve their process, including user interfaces that intuitively follow their work flow, and easy automation for tedious setups and system readiness checks. InspectionWare integrates the semi-automated subsystems of instruments, motion control, data management and factory networking.

The UTEX-branded NDT Suites simplify the workflow for operators in the aerospace, space launch, energy and manufacturing industries. UTEX also designs fully customized applications at low cost for most NDT methods in all NDT markets. Custom Inspection applications

Custom inspection applications can be developed very economically. UTEX have been in partnership with end users, systems integrators and instrument manufacturers for over 25 years. The custom applications are built using InspectionWare.

TWI Crystal

TWI Crystal™ (TWI Crystal (twisoftware.com)) is an advanced ultrasonic inspection package that enables automated Full-Matrix Capture (FMC), Virtual Source Aperture (VSA) and Plane Wave Imaging (PWI) inspection of industrial structures. Developed by TWI a world leading research institute specialising in advanced ultrasonic testing (UT) methods for non-destructive testing (NDT), the software is fully compatible with the MicroPulse range of instruments and provides an intuitive interface for advanced ultrasonic inspection techniques. TWI Crystal™ grants users high defect detection and sizing accuracy capability, offering real time automated inspection through planar or complex geometry structures. This broad capability allows it to be integrated into both in-service and production environments and offers solutions to a range of industrial sectors including nuclear, defence, oil & gas, aerospace and rail.

LabVIEW

LabVIEW from National Instruments is a graphical programming platform that helps engineers scale from design to test and from small to large systems. It offers unprecedented integration with existing legacy software, IP, and hardware while capitalizing on the latest computing technologies. MATLAB

MATLAB® is the high-level language and interactive environment used by millions of engineers and scientists worldwide (Click here for more information about MATLAB). It lets you explore and visualize ideas and collaborate across disciplines including signal and image processing, communications, control systems, and computational finance.

In the context of MicroPulse it is particularly popular with Universities, being used by Bristol University in the development of their TFM algorithms.

University of Bristol, Brain Software Platform

BRAIN is a software platform for ultrasonic array data acquisition and processing, written by the Ultrasonics and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) group at the University of Bristol, UK. BRAIN is particularly designed around Full Matrix Capture (FMC) for NDT applications. BRAIN is written in Matlab and can be downloaded either as Matlab functions that can be executed from within the Matlab environment or as a standalone version. (BRAIN download | SourceForge.net)

MIPS/GUIDE

MIPS and GUIDE are two complementary software packages for collecting and analysing the data from automated ultrasonic inspections. They have been developed over a period of over 30 years, initially by the CEGB Non-Destructive Testing Applications Centre at Wythenshaw and more recently by British Energy (now EDF Energy) at Barnwood. Together they provide a flexible inspection package, which used in conjunction with Peak NDT’s MicroPulse flaw detector has been subject to extensive independent validation including blind test-block trials prior to use for Sizewell B PWR pre- and in-service inspections. MIPS and GUIDE are used by EDF Energy for almost all their automated ultrasonic inspections. This ongoing and consistent approach has shortened development time where new inspections are required and has enabled Technical Justifications to build on work already carried out for previous applications, reducing the time and cost associated the Inspection Qualification. Being used also by Doosan Babcock and Rolls-Royce Marine Power, MIPS and GUIDE have become accepted as the UK Nuclear Industry standard for safety critical inspections.
